To help build the new generation of coastal defenders in San Diego County, WILDCOAST partnered with Outdoor Outreach this summer to engage high school students in the region’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). The project, funded by the California State Coastal Conservancy, brought students from Crawford, Lincoln and El Cajon High Schools in San Diego County to five of San Diego’s MPAs, where they learned and explored the incredible coastal and marine ecosystems of these underwater parks.
Some of the student had never experienced these areas, which included the Tijuana River Mouth, La Jolla’s Matlahuayl and Swami’s MPAs.
WILDCOAST would like to thank Outdoor Outreach, the California State Coastal Conservancy, the US Department of Fish and Wildlife, California State Parks, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Hike Bike and Kayak, San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy and all of the students for making the project possible
