Celebrate California’s Underwater Parks Day and Support your local Marine Protected Areas!

The annual Underwater Parks Day is set to take place from Saturday January 19, 2019 through Monday January 21, 2019. Join WILDCOAST in supporting California’s network of 124 marine protected areas (MPAs) by donating, volunteering, or visiting your local MPA!

California’s MPAs are a statewide treasure, protecting more than 545,000 acres of biologically, culturally, and economically significant wetland, coastal, and marine ecosystems. Visitors to these exciting underwater parks are often treated to vibrant tidepools, whale sightings, amazing surf, and countless other recreational opportunities.

San Diego County is home to eleven MPAs, including popular places like Swami’s Reef, Batiquitos and San Elijo Lagoons, and La Jolla Shores. WILDCOAST is helping to conserve almost 18,000 acres of MPAs in San Diego County through stewardship, education, outreach, monitoring and policy initiatives.
