URGENT: Final Days to Protect Our Coast from Offshore Drilling

Climate Change | Uncategorized

Time is Running Out to Make Your Voice Heard

Wow, 2026! We’re already off to a roaring start. If your New Year’s resolution was to “experience more bureaucratic drama regarding federal oceans policy,” then you hit the jackpot! Nothing screams “Happy New Year” quite like the very real possibility of oil spills on our California coastline, am I right? Well in case you still haven’t landed on a resolution that will stick, I have an idea, “Forget gym memberships, let’s get civically engaged!” Local action is scientifically proven* to lower heart rate, increase self-worth, and make you look cool. Same as working out, right?

For real though, the clock is ticking on the fight to protect our pristine coastlines, marine life, and coastal communities. We are in the final days to oppose the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM) disastrous proposed Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Gas Leasing Program for 2026-2031.

The last day to submit comments to BOEM is January 23.

This proposal threatens to open our waters to new drilling leases, risking catastrophic oil spills, deafening seismic testing, and irreversible damage to our climate. We cannot let this happen. We must not allow our future to be sold to the highest bidder at the expense of our environment and public health.

Act Now to Save Our Coasts and Oceans!

Your voice has the power to stop this. We need a massive wave of public opposition to show the federal government that our coasts are not for sale.

Send your comments here. Easy peasy. Tell your family and friends.

Every comment counts. Tell BOEM that we demand clean energy solutions, not more dirty drilling. Protect our oceans, our communities, and our planet from the dangers of offshore drilling.

Do not wait. Act now.

Please and thank you.

Your local gym-loving ocean activist,
Anne Middleton
